Production Hub continues to grow: Second expansion of our medical technology manufacturing in Erlangen

Our Production Hub Our operations in Erlangen are growing, and for the second time now. We've significantly expanded our production area once again. What began as a small in-house manufacturing facility next to our development office has now become an integral part of what we offer our customers. Reason enough to take a look back and, of course, forward.

How a customer inquiry led to a new business area

It didn't start with a grand strategy, but with a specific request: A customer asked us to handle the manufacturing of his medical device. He was looking for a partner he could trust, not just a contract manufacturer.

Initially, we were hesitant. After all, there are already plenty of service providers offering pure manufacturing services. But medical devices are rarely standard products: they are complex, subject to strict regulatory requirements, and especially in the start-up phase, production volumes are often still manageable.

This is precisely the situation that requires a manufacturing partner with strong technical background, who the Design Transfer carries out the process cleanly and reliably supports the product throughout the entire start-up phase. For the customer, this means a faster time-to-market with the assurance that quality and regulatory compliance are met.

From individual case to fixed offer

This initial project has since grown significantly. More and more customers are utilizing our manufacturing services at the Production Hub – from design transfer to series production. We are delighted with this development, as it demonstrates that the approach of closely integrating development and manufacturing meets a genuine market need.

With the growing number of projects, our capacities have also reached their limits. The logical consequence: more space. We have now expanded our production facilities for the second time, roughly doubling the area. More products simply require more space for machines, processes, and the people who operate them.

And we are far from finished: We already have further projects in the pipeline that we are very excited about.

Why in-house production in medical technology matters right now

The expansion is more than just additional square footage. It also represents a manufacturing philosophy from which our customers directly benefit:

  • Proximity to manufacturing: Manufacturing in Erlangen instead of on the other side of the world significantly reduces dependence on distant production sites.
  • Control over intellectual property: Development and manufacturing are handled in-house. Know-how and design data remain where they belong.
  • Short distances: Engineering and production work closely together. This reduces coordination efforts, accelerates decision-making, and ensures high process reliability.
  • Direct line to our engineers: Questions regarding design, manufacturability, or modifications can be clarified directly with the engineers who developed the product, without going through multiple interfaces.
  • Compliance with norms and standards: Manufacturing takes place under the same regulatory standards as development. This is a particular advantage with regard to MDR and ISO 13485.
  • Reliability: Our customers can rely on us to manufacture their products with the same care we put into developing them. Quality, transparency, and reliability are our top priorities.

From prototype to series production without friction losses

Especially in medical technology, the transition from development to manufacturing is often one of the most critical phases of a project. A functioning prototype alone is not enough. Processes must be defined, documentation transferred, supply chains established, and manufacturing workflows implemented, all without losing sight of quality, safety, or regulatory requirements.

This is precisely where our Production Hub demonstrates its strengths. Because development, regulatory affairs, and manufacturing work closely together, we can efficiently manage the design transfer and avoid typical interface losses. Questions regarding design, software, or technical documentation can be clarified directly with the teams that developed the product.

For our customers, this means shorter coordination processes, greater process reliability and a significantly easier transition from development to production.

Conclusion: More capacity for our customers

The fact that we are now expanding our production for the second time is above all one thing for us: confirmation that customers appreciate a manufacturing partner who does not separate development and production, but thinks about them together.

At the same time, we are looking ahead with great anticipation. We are currently working on several exciting new projects that will pass through our Production Hub in the coming months and years. The expansion of our manufacturing facilities creates the necessary capacity for this and forms the basis for the next stage of our growth.

We will certainly present many of these projects here in the future. We are excited to see which innovative medical products will be developed together with our customers and where this path will lead us.

Stay tuned. We have a feeling that the most exciting chapters of our Production Hub are still ahead of us.
