Resuscitation: When every second counts – medical technology saves lives

According to the German Resuscitation Registry 2024, 370 people per day in Germany suffer a sudden cardiac arrest. That's over 136,000 cases per year, mostly occurring outside of hospitals. [1].

The good news: More and more people are intervening and providing first aid.
The bad news: The survival rate has stagnated at only 11 %. Every minute that passes without effective resuscitation dramatically increases the risk of serious injury or death.

The critical minutes during resuscitation

In the event of cardiac arrest, every second counts. Irreversible brain damage begins after just three minutes without oxygen. The so-called "golden time" until the arrival of emergency services is crucial for survival.

However, even trained professionals find it difficult to perform resuscitation exactly according to the recommendations:

  • Indentation depth: 5–6 cm
  • Frequency: 100-120 compressions per minute

For laypersons in an acute stress situation, this is significantly more difficult – uncertainty, fear and physical strain often lead to suboptimal results.

This is where the crucial point becomes clear: The quality of resuscitation is crucial for survival.
